Our old farm, at the foot of the Arlberg – “im Wåld dinna”. The “Wåld” is the field name of the area where our farm is located. It has a long history. It was built by settlers from the Valais as early as 1600. It used to stand in the direction of Bockbachtal in one of the most beautiful places in Birchetsgump. It was the first settlement area of our municipality. In the early days, until the valley floor was made a land register, the farmers lived on the mountain farm all year round.
It was later farmed throughout the summer.

The hay harvested there could be used as fodder, so there was no need to transport it down into the valley, and the manure was already on site. Various reasons led to the farm being allowed to fall into disrepair.
On the one hand, people in the valley already had considerably more comfort, and on the other hand, there was a lack of money and the “sense” to maintain the then useless house. It belonged to two families who had abandoned the farm to decay.
Guntram Sr. bought the farm at the beginning of the seventies, the roof was already half collapsed, and dismantled it block by block with his brother without technical aids.
The new location had already been prepared and he rebuilt it true to the original. Even better, he installed the old open fireplace instead of a normal stove and turned it into a real mountain farmer’s museum. He “saved” much of what was thrown away or turned into firewood for future generations.
